The club's longest-serving player.
Stephen King goes back further than anyone else in the squad. His first full season was 2003-04, when Limerick's Super League side played as Burger King Limerick, and by 2004 the starting power forward spot was his.
He held it for twelve Super League seasons. Along the way came the 2012 double with the UL Eagles, the Cup and the League in the same season, before he retired in 2015.
The first retirement did not last. He came back in 2021, and that stint ended with the 2023 Division One league final: an overtime loss to Ulster University with promotion on the line. He stepped away a second time.
In 2025 he came back once more, this time to help get the Eagles promoted. It worked. The 2025-26 squad won the Cup and Division One double, and King finished the season a double-winner again, fourteen years after the first one. When the younger lads want to know what a winning season feels like, they can just ask Steve.
He is not finished competing either. In July 2026 he played for the Ireland Over-40s Masters side at the inaugural FIBA Masters Open in Greece, one of eight Irish teams at the tournament.
2025-26 with the Eagles
The senior statesman of the double-winning squad. Back for a third stint, he added the 2025-26 Cup and Division One titles to his 2012 double, and ended the season promoted back to the Super League he spent twelve years in.
