The FIBA U18 EuroBasket Division B ended in Croatia yesterday. Ireland finished 17th of 22, up from 20th last year, with the Eagles' Fred Klimas in the final 12.
The tournament ran for ten days across Rijeka and Opatija. Niall Berry's side lost the opener to Finland by two points, 76–78, then beat Cyprus 80–60, lost to Belgium 63–88, beat Great Britain 70–63 and lost to the Netherlands 67–89.
Classification brought the closest game of Ireland's tournament, a 105–106 overtime defeat to Sweden. The response came on the final day: an 82–60 win over Portugal in the 17th-place game, closing the record at 3–4.
Klimas, 17, came through the Lions and made his senior Eagles debut last season. In Croatia he averaged 9.6 points and 3.7 assists. It was his third FIBA Youth EuroBasket, and he has twice played a year young.
Trevor Moore, the Eagles assistant coach and Limerick Lions chairman, was on the Ireland staff as an assistant coach, the same role he held at the 2023 Under-18 Europeans in Portugal.
That closes the club's international summer: the FIBA Masters Open in Greece in early July, a best-ever fifth for the Under-20s in Bratislava, and now the Under-18s in Croatia.
The Super League is next. The 2026-27 fixtures were published on 30 July, and the Eagles open away to St Vincent's on Saturday 3 October.
